چکیده

Preliminary notes The kinetic energy of river currents is weakly researched for the possibility of production of electrical energy. Thus there are very few new suggestions for the exploitation of this energy form. This paper shows a method of exploiting the hydrokinetic energy of river currents created by combining the traditional water wheel and the Darrieus turbine. The water wheel is used due to its historic and traditional meaning and the Darrieus turbine is added due to the increase of the overall power of such a facility. Considering the small dimensions of a micro hydroenergy power plant of this type it is necessary to precisely determine the most favorable locations. For these locations the most important data are the speed and depth of the water flow because the power in using hydrokinetic energy depends upon the third exponent of speed, and depth is important because the Darrieus turbine is immersed in water. Thus, the model of optimizing locations is done based on the data received by measuring the hydrological characteristics of the watercourse using the ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) device.

Numerical analysis of on the effects of Hydrokinetic turbine presence in flow structure of a compound open-channel

In the recent years, due to the hydropower plants environmental problems, hydrokinetic turbine usages has been increased. Using such turbines in rivers modify natural flow-field. In previous studies, impacts of turbine on the flow-field just only in rectangular open-channel is studied. In this work, the effects of hydrokinetic turbine in a straight compound channel has been numerically studied ...

Numerical optimization of hydrofoil geometry for a Darrieus hydraulic turbine using dynamic mesh and central composite design

In this study, a Darrieus hydraulic turbine for power generation applications is chosen and the response surface methodology (RSM) based on central composite design (CCD) is applied to obtain the optimized design for its hydrofoil geometry to increase the torque coefficient. For this aim, all turbine performance factors, except hydrofoil geometry, were considered to be constant and the turbine ...

Characterizing the Juvenile Fish Community in Turbid Alaskan Rivers to Assess Potential Interactions with Hydrokinetic Devices

Installation of hydrokinetic power-generating devices is currently being considered for the Yukon and Tanana rivers, two large and glacially turbid rivers in Alaska. We sampled downstream-migrating fish along the margins of both rivers, a middle island in the Yukon River, and mid-channel in the Tanana River in order to assess the temporal and spatial patterns of movement by resident and anadrom...

Techno-Economic Analysis of Hydrokinetic Turbines

In small-scale hydropower scheme, the most important component is electro-mechanical equipment. Since cost contribution of this component is high because hydrokinetic projects require negligible civil works. Turbine and alternator contribute a major fraction of the hydrokinetic projects. Thus, there is a requirement to estimates the electromechanical equipment cost for a hydrokinetic hydropower...

Unsteady aerodynamic performance of Dual-Row H-Darrieus vertical axis wind turbine

H-rotor Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) is one of the most efficient energy suppliers which have been investigated in many recent types of research. The aim of this work is to study the aerodynamic performance of a doubled-row H-Darrieus VAWT. First, an ordinary three-bladed VAWT with NACA4415 profile is simulated by means of 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and results are compared to a...
